JOB SUMMARY

  • We are seeking to recruit a highly competent and experienced Clinical Pathologist to join our team.
  • The Clinical Pathologist will provide specialist pathology services, ensuring accurate, timely and clinically relevant diagnostic results while supporting patient care, laboratory quality and evidence-based clinical decision-making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide specialist interpretation, validation and reporting of laboratory investigations.
  • Oversee diagnostic services across haematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, immunology and molecular diagnostics. Experience in histopathology and cytopathology will be an added advantage.
  • Communicate critical and clinically significant results promptly to treating clinicians.
  • Provide clinical consultation on appropriate investigations and interpretation of complex laboratory results.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory SOPs, quality standards, regulatory requirements and applicable KENAS and SANAS accreditation standards.
  • Monitor quality control, turnaround times, critical results and key laboratory performance indicators.
  • Oversee and supervise participation in external quality assurance programmes.
  • Participate in laboratory audits, incident investigations and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support antimicrobial stewardship and patient safety initiatives.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinical meetings, CMEs and other professional development activities.
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians and other healthcare professionals to support optimal patient care.
  • Provide training, mentorship and professional development for laboratory and clinical staff.
  • Contribute to service development, clinical audits and evidence-based practice.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • The successful candidate must have:
  • MBChB or equivalent degree from a recognised institution.
  • MMed or equivalent qualification in General Pathology/Clinical Pathology.
  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) and recognition as a specialist.
  • A valid and current practising licence.
  • At least five (5) years' post-specialisation experience in a hospital or accredited medical laboratory.
  • Experience in histopathology/cytopathology will be an added advantage.
