Description
Duties and responsibilities shall entail:
- Formulate, implement, review and monitor registration and licensing policies, regulations, guidelines, frameworks and standards.
- Oversee the registration, enrolment, licensure, retention and certification of nurses and midwives in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Ensure the maintenance, integrity, security and continuous improvement of registration and licensing databases, records and professional registers.
- Oversee the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of internship programmes, including assessment, approval, auditing and monitoring of internship centres.
- Coordinate implementation of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements, approvals and compliance processes.
- Oversee retention audits, private practice assessments, temporary licensure, student permits and other regulatory compliance activities.
- Oversee verification and certification services for professional practice, immigration, employment and related purposes.
- Spearhead research, data analysis and policy reviews to support evidence-based decision-making and regulatory reforms.
- Lead automation and digital transformation initiatives within registration, licensing, internship and records management functions.
- Develop and implement departmental work plans, budgets, procurement plans and performance management frameworks.
- Monitor and evaluate departmental performance and prepare technical, operational and management reports for decision-making.
- Coordinate stakeholder engagement and respond to inquiries from nurses, midwives, training institutions, healthcare providers, employers and regulatory agencies.
- Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, mentorship and performance management for departmental staff.
- Coordinate capacity-building initiatives to strengthen departmental competencies and service delivery.
Education
The successful candidate must possess:
- Master's Degree in Nursing, Midwifery or a Health-related field from a recognized institution.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Midwifery from a recognized institution.
- Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Valid Practicing License issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Membership in a relevant professional association and in good standing.
- Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
More Details on Experience
The candidate must have:
- Possess at least twelve (12) years relevant work experience, five (5) years of which must be at senior management level.
- Demonstrated managerial, administrative and professional competence as reflected in work performance and results.
- Experience in registration, licensing, regulatory compliance, healthcare administration or professional regulation.
