Job Purpose The Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of forklifts and other material handling equipment to load, unload, move, stack, and store raw materials, packaging materials, and finished products. This role ensures accuracy in inventory movement, adherence to safety standards, and support for smooth warehouse and production operations. Key Responsibilities Material Handling and Warehouse Operations Operate forklifts safely and efficiently to transport materials and products within the warehouse, production, and loading areas. Load and unload raw materials, packaging materials, and finished products from trucks and containers. Move products to designated storage locations while ensuring proper stacking and storage practices. Supply production lines with required materials and remove finished products as directed. Assist in organizing warehouse storage areas to maximize space utilization and operational efficiency. Inventory Management Verify product quantities and descriptions against dispatch, receiving, and inventory documents. Support stock counts, cycle counts, and inventory reconciliation activities. Ensure accurate placement and retrieval of inventory items. Report inventory discrepancies, damaged goods, or stock variances promptly. Equipment Inspection and Maintenance Conduct daily pre-operation and post-operation inspections of forklifts and related equipment. Check fuel, battery levels, hydraulic systems, brakes, tires, lights, and safety devices. Report equipment defects, malfunctions, or maintenance needs immediately. Maintain cleanliness of forklifts and ensure proper equipment care. Safety and Compliance Adhere to all company health, safety, quality, and environmental policies. Operate forklifts in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and workplace safety procedures. Ensure loads are properly balanced, secured, and transported safely. Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Report accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly. General Duties Assist in loading and offloading activities when required. Support housekeeping and cleanliness within warehouse and operational areas. Collaborate with warehouse, production, and logistics teams to achieve operational targets. Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the role. Qualifications and Experience Education Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent qualification. Certificate in Warehouse Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field is an added advantage. Professional Qualifications Valid Forklift Operator Certification/License from a recognized institution. Training in Occupational Safety and Health will be an added advantage. Experience Minimum of 2 years’ experience operating forklifts in a manufacturing, FMCG, warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment. Experience handling palletized goods and warehouse inventory operations. Familiarity with warehouse safety procedures and inventory management practices. Skills and Competencies Proficiency in operating forklifts and material handling equipment. Knowledge of warehouse operations and inventory control processes. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Good numerical and record-keeping skills. Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment. Good communication and teamwork skills. Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
