About the Role

  • Our client is looking for a qualified Mechanical Technician to maintain and repair blending, bagging, and material-handling equipment at the Mombasa terminal, minimizing downtime and supporting safe, continuous warehouse operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out scheduled and non-scheduled preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on blending hoppers, conveyor systems, bagging lines, palletizers, and forklifts/wheel loaders to achieve maximum equipment reliability.
  • Conduct regular inspections of machinery and mechanical systems, including lubrication, bearing/belt/seal replacement, and general servicing to extend equipment life and reduce breakdowns.
  •  Diagnose mechanical faults quickly using appropriate diagnostic methods (vibration checks, visual/audible inspection) and carry out repairs to minimize disruption to loading, unloading and blending schedules.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motors, gears, pumps, and other rotating or static plant equipment.
  • Undertake minor structural repairs, fitting and alignment of moving machinery parts, and basic welding/fabrication tasks where required and authorized.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, spare-parts requisitions and usage records, and service schedules for all mechanical equipment on a maintenance management system or logbook.
  • Prepare maintenance reports for the Warehouse Supervisor and HESQ Officer, highlighting recurring issues, wear patterns, or equipment nearing end-of-life.
  • Work closely with electrical technicians and equipment operators to jointly diagnose and resolve combined mechanical/electrical faults.
  • Strictly follow Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures, safe isolation practices, and Clients’ Golden Rules when carrying out any repair or maintenance work.
  • Support installation, calibration and commissioning of new or repaired equipment, and assist in training junior technicians or operators on basic maintenance and safety practices.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workshop and ensure proper disposal of used oils, filters and other maintenance waste in line with environmental procedures.

 Qualifications & Experience

  • Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3 years hands-on experience maintaining industrial, warehouse, or bagging/blending machinery; port or bulk-commodity handling experience is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of forklift, conveyor and hopper mechanical systems.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure to restore equipment quickly and safely.
  • Willingness to be on call and to work high-season shift patterns.

Mandatory Certifications

  • Recognized mechanical trade certificate from an accredited institution.
  • Basic occupational health & safety training (or willingness to complete Clients’ HESQ induction).
