 Qualifications.

For appointments to this grade, a candidate must have:

• At least three (3) years’ work experience at the grade of Driver II or in a comparable position in the Public or Private Sector;
• Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) minimum mean grade D plain or its equivalent;
• Valid Class BCE driving license free from any endorsement;
• Defensive Driving Certificate from a recognized institution;
• Occupational Trade Test Grade II for drivers;
• First Aid certificate course lasting not less than one (1) week from St John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution;
• Attended a refresher course for drivers lasting not less than one (1) week within every three (3) years at Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized institution; andi
• Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

Duties and Responsibilities.

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail;

• Driving a motor vehicle as authorized;
• Carrying out minor mechanical repairs;
• Recognizing and reporting abnormal operation of the vehicle;
• Security of the vehicle on and off the road;
• Safety of passengers and/or goods therein;
• Maintaining cleanliness of the assigned vehicles;
• Carrying out routine checks on the vehicles cooling, oil, electrical and brake systems, tyre pressure, detecting and reporting malfunctioning of vehicle systems;
• Carrying out minor repairs including oiling and greasing; and
• Maintenance of work tickets for vehicles assigned.

Remuneration will be in accordance with NLAS Salary Scale;

• Salary Scale: Ksh. 32,932 x 2,030 – 34,962 x 2,031 – 36,993 x 2,031 – 39,024 x 2,031 – 41,055 x 2,031 – 43,086 x 2,031 – 45,117 x 2,031 – 47,148 p.m.
